YSU Melnick Medical Museum Exhibition: Surviving & Thriving: AIDS, Politics, and Culture / Sobrevivir & Prosperar: Sida, Politica y Cultura
YSU Melnick Medical Museum presents the National Library of Medicine exhibition Surviving & Thriving: AIDS, Politics, and Culture, through November 16, daily, 8 am - 9 pm. This banner exhibit is presented in English & Spanish and is located in the atrium of Cushwa Hall on the YSU campus. Admission is free for the banner exhibit and the medical museum, also in Cushwa Hall.
The exhibit explores the ever-changing relationship between science and society by presenting several perspectives on the national AIDS crisis in the 1980s and 1990s. Early responders cared for the sick, fought homophobia, and promoted new practices to keep people healthy. Scientists and public health officials struggled to understand the disease and how it spread. Politicians remained largely silent until the epidemic became too big to ignore. Activists demanded that people with AIDS be part of the solution.
The Melnick Medical Museum is located on the ground floor of Cushwa Hall and is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from noon to 3pm.
