Have your day on 88.5 WYSU-FM! On the day of your choice (subject to scheduling availability), our program hosts will read your message several times throughout the day. This is a great way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, memorials, or other events by individuals or organizations. All day sponsor messages will meet the following criteria:
Up to 15 seconds (two or three sentences).
Weekday day sponsors are guaranteed a total of 10 spots between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. Weekend day sponsors are guaranteed a total of 10 spots between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, distributed around network programs.
Announcements may be used as memorials, celebrations, or to publicize events by individuals or non-profit organizations. They should be restricted to answering the basic who, what, when, and where questions (not necessarily why). All day sponsorships must follow public broadcasting underwriting guidelines (the day sponsor must be identified by name in their message, there may no calls to action, and there may be no value-laden descriptions). The content should be non-controversial, although announcing an event for some organizations will inevitably be controversial to some people, something that cannot be avoided. Day sponsorships promoting specific religious or political positions will not be accepted, but sponsorships publicizing a religious event or special day, and sponsorships listing the services of non-profit businesses and organizations, are acceptable.
In no circumstances will the language of an underwriting announcement or day sponsorship express an opinion on matters of public concern or otherwise advocate positions on controversial matters. All announcements are subject to approval by WYSU’s station management. With respect to religious messaging, given that most listeners will be of different religions, care should be given to ensure that underwriting messages are appropriate to the context of public radio, consistent with WYSU’s publicly-supported mission and funding profile, and not unacceptable to those listeners who may not share the underwriters’ religious perspective. A reasonable listener test will be applied under these circumstances. In addition, this rule prohibits proselytizing language or other language intended to draw distinctions between different religions. To be clear, events can take place at religious institutions and the events can be mentioned in messaging so long as they are not promoting the religious services and points of view.
To provide more members with the opportunity to get the day they want, two sponsorships per day will be allowed.
Day sponsors have the opportunity to make two classical music requests. The air staff will do their best to honor the requests, but it cannot be guarantee that the requests will be played, or that they will be played in their entirety.
