Opera Western Reserve presents Charles (sharl) Gounod's (goo-noh) opera Faust, on Saturday, September 20th, at 7:30 pm, in Powers Auditorium at the DeYor Performing Arts Center, in downtown Youngstown. Faust is under the stage direction of Scott Skiba and music direction of Susan Davenny Wyner. Tickets and more information are available at operawesternreserve.org.
The cast features Christine Lyons in her Opera Western Reserve debut as Marguerite, Luke Norvell as the titular Faust, and Andrew Potter as the demon Méphistophélès.
The dynamic performances, combined with the powerful story oflove, betrayal, and redemption, will bring Gounod’s masterpiece to life on the DeYor stage.
Faust, composed by Gounod with a libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré and adapted from the play Faust et Marguerite by Michel Carré, is a five-act opera that tells the tragic tale of an aging man who makes a pact with the devil to regain his youth. As Faust embarks on a passionate romance with the innocent Marguerite, the deal leads to heartbreaking consequences.
