YSU Summer Festival of the Arts: Volunteers

The 24th annual YSU Summer Festival of the Arts, scheduled for July 9 and 10 at Wean Park in downtown Youngstown, is seeking volunteers for the event.  Volunteers are needed for artist registration; information booths; in the children's hands-on art tent; and for technical assistance at performance sites, among other areas. Ursuline Education & Wellness Center: Guided Labyrinth Walk

 The Ursuline Education & Wellness Center, 4280 Shields Road, is resuming its monthly Guided Labyrinth Walks after a hiatus last year because of the pandemic.  Each walk will be led by a different facilitator. Opera Western Reserve: Three Pigs and a Blanket & The Big Baaad Cabaret

Opera Western Reserve is presenting back-to-back live events at the DeYor Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 11.  At 4:30 pm and 6 pm are two free performances of the children's opera  The Three Little Pigs, in the outdoor courtyard at DeYor Performing Arts Center.  That will be followed by The Big, Baaad Cabaret, at 8 pm, featuring soprano Randa Rouweyha and tenor Jesus Daniel singing duets ranging from opera arias to Broadway favorites.  Ticket information is available at operawesternreserve.org.



World Press Freedom Day to be observed at YSU

The Youngstown Press Club will observe World Press Freedom Day at noon May 3 in Youngstown State University’s Kilcawley Center. During the observance, which will be streamed on the Youngstown Press Club Facebook group page, press club members will read the names of 50 journalists killed while serving their communities in 2020 and five additional journalists killed so far this year.

YSU Legacy Forest Program: Earth Day Tree Dedication

The YSU Legacy Forests Program presents the Earth Day Tree Dedication for the 2020 Freshmen Class Tree, on Thursday, April 22, at 2 pm, on the west side of Tod Hall on the YSU campus.  Every year, the YSU Legacy Forests program will plant trees equal to the number of incoming freshmen.  A sign-up list for members of the campus community to participate in the next tree planting will be available at this dedication. 

Bird in Hand + Cool Adventures!

Easily practice social distancing with a variety of fun and unique outdoor activities for the whole family to enjoy! Experience the thrill of hand-feeding wild chickadees at Bird in Hand and also see lots of cool critters up close inside the Amazing Garden Plant Science Center. Enjoy the fresh winter air as you search for scavenger hunt clues on the woodland trails and have fun playing on the 2-acre nature playground (weather permitting).

Beech Creek Botanical Garden and Nature Preserve: Holiday Nights, Garden Lights

Celebrate the beauty of the Christmas season at Beech Creek Gardens! The botanical garden has been transformed into a natural wonderland filled with unique areas to explore and things to learn about the wonders of winter nature.There are hands-on activities for all ages! Embrace the holiday spirit with this one-of-a-kind experience at Beech Creek Botanical Garden & Nature Preserve in Alliance, Saturday through Wednesday,December 26-30, from 5-9 pm. To keep our guests safe, attendance capacity is limited, masks are required while inside faculties, and social distancing is required.

CycWard Bike Club: Glow the YO! 2020

CycWard Bike Club is hosting 'Glow the YO!' on Saturday, October 17th beginning at 6:30 pm, at Wean Park near the Covelli Center parking lot. Glow the YO! is a free community night ride bringing together Valley residents, city leadership and anyone who enjoys riding their bike.
