Friends of Poland Forest: Poland Forest Mushroom Walk

Join Sarra Mohn to learn fun facts and research about fungi while exploring the Poland Municipal Forest, on Saturday, September 25 at 10 am. Emphasis will be on the identification, beauty, function, danger and diversity of our local mushrooms. The goal is to be knowledgeable stewards and help preserve the Poland Municipal Forest.

Oh Wow!: Eleventh Annual Silly Science Sunday

Oh Wow!: The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology will host the 11th-Annual Silly Science Sunday, 11 am - 4 pm, on September 19.  This annual event spills out onto the streets of downtown Youngstown to offer more hands-on, interactive STREAM  displays, exhibits, and EDUtaining shows!  

2021 Youngstown Peace Race

The 2021 Youngstown Peace Race is coming up on Sunday, October 17th. The 400-Meter Kids Fun Run for ages 10 & under begins at 9 am, and the 2-Mile Run/Walk begins at 9:30 am. Both begin and end on the square in downtown Youngstown. The featured 10k Race winding through scenic Mill Creek Park begins at 10:00 am, with bus transportation to the starting line provided in downtown Youngstown. Race and registration information available at ytownpeacerace.org. 

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown: Guided Labyrinth Walk

The Ursuline Education & Wellness Center offers its next guided walk of of the 2021 season Thursday, September 16, at 6:30 p.m. For each walk, participants will meditate on a theme regarding respect. Labyrinth walks are free and open to all people of faith. Walks take about 1/2 hour. Invite your friends and family to this unique experience!

Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens: Summer Garden Party

Friends of Fellows Riverside Gardens will hold their Summer Garden Party, Welcome Back to the Gardens on Friday, July 30 from 6 to 10 pm, at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Youngstown. Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry: 7th annual Nun Run

The Ursuline Sisters HIV/AIDS Ministry and Ursuline Preschool & Kindergarten are hosting the 7th annual Nun Run 5k, 1-mile walk, and kids’ run. This year, the event will be a hybrid of an in-person event as well as a virtual one! The in-person event will take place on Saturday, October 2,  at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, in Canfield. Registration will open on race day at the Ursuline Center auditorium at 7:30 a.m. A Kids’ Fun Run begins at 8:15 am, followed by the 1-Mile Walk at 8:30 am, and the 5k Race at 9 am 

The Friends of the Mahoning River: Mahoning River Cleanup

The Friends of the Mahoning River and Tri County CleanWays are teaming up again this year to remove tires and other trash from the Mahoning River in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. The cleanup event will take place on Saturday, July 17th from 9 AM to about 1 PM. More information on the Facebook pages of Friends of the Mahoning River and Tri-County CleanWays. 

[Last year’s cleanup removed over 100 tires and pick up loads of trash from the Mahoning River and its streambanks.]

YSU Cliffe College of Creative Arts: The 24th Annual Summer Festival of the Arts (Extended)

YSU's Cliffe College of Creative Arts presents the 24th Annual Summer Festival of the Arts, at the Wean Foundation Park in downtown Youngstown on Saturday, July 9th, 10 am - 6 pm, and Sunday, July 10th, 11 am - 5 pm. The heart of the festival is the artists’ marketplace that showcases the work of over 70 local, regional and national artists.  Music, theater and dance performances are also scheduled, as well as the popular hands on art tent for children. More information is available at YSU dot edu slash SFA, and on Facebook.
