McDonough Museum to host YSU faculty artists’ ‘Enigmatic Reflections’

The McDonough Museum of Art presents "Enigmatic Reflections", the YSU Department of Art Faculty Exhibition, on display from August 28 through October 24. "Enigmatic Reflections" is an exploration of innovation and tradition. The biennial exhibition of current research by Youngstown State University Department of Art faculty communicates new vision, and re-investigates long-standing practices in the fields of art and design. Some of the participating artists will give livestream gallery talks throughout the run of the exhibition.

Opera Western Reserve Presents: Summer Songs with Marian Vogel

Opera Western Reserve Presents: Summer Songs with Marian Vogel. Regionally-renowned soprano, Marian Vogel, accompanied by pianist Benjamin Malkevitch, performs a virtual recital, available online on Wednesday, August 12, at 7 pm.  Recorded in the historic Stambaugh Auditorium concert hall, the program contains opera favorites, exciting show-tunes, plus behind the scenes extras.  More information available on Facebook and OperaWesternReserve.org.

YSU Department of History : Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor Now Open

In partnership with Ohio History Connection and Youngstown State University, the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor is welcoming visitors back. The Historical Center exhibit galleries will be open to the general public each Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am - 4 pm, and Saturday from Noon - 4 pm. There are additional hours on Fridays from 9  - 10 am, and Saturdays from 11 am to Noon for high-risk patrons only.  It is recommended that patrons plan to pay admission fees by card or check.   Reservations for group tours can be made at 330-941-1314.

YSU Department of Theatre & Dance and Dana School of Music: Voices of Color in Song

YSU's Department of Theatre & Dance and the Dana School of Music will host a virtual Juneteenth Celebration this evening at 7 pm, on the videoconferencing platform Zoom. Voices of Color in Song is a virtual open mic celebration hosted by Jaron M. LeGrair, YSU Adjunct Professor and Director of the YSU Gospel Choir. Participants should sign into the Zoom application through the YSU Department of Theatre and Dance Facebook page. More information available at 330-727-7514.

The McDonough Museum of Art presents the #MuseumChallenge (Hash Tag Museum Challenge). Everyone is invited to recreate a work of art using household items. They should send an image of the original artwork, plus their re-creation to McDonoughMuseumofArt@ysu.edu (McDonough Museum of Art at YSU dot EDU), or post the images on their social media pages, and tag the McDonough. Opera Western Reserve Presents: A Taste of Traviata

YSU Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies: Film Screening and Discussion: 93Queen

The YSU Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies presents a Film Screening and Discussion on 93Queen, the story of how Hasidic women founded the first all-female volunteer ambulance corps in NYC.  The program takes place on Wednesday, March 4 at 6:00 pm, in the “Schwebel Auditorium” in Moser Hall, on the YSU campus. This is a co-production with the Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival.

Thiel College Con Spirito Concert Series: New Orford String Quartet

Thiel College presents the Con Spirito Concert Series featuring the New Orford String Quartet, on Monday, March 9, at 7 pm, at the David Johnson Memorial Chapel, on the Thiel College campus, in Greenville. The concert is free and open to the public.
