Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Film Festival: My Name is Sara


The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation presents the film drama, My Name Is Sara, beginning Thursday, October 8, with online access for 48 hours. This is the story of Sara Goralnik, a 13-year-old Polish Jew whose entire family was killed by Nazis in September 1942. Tickets are $25 for all 7 films, as well as a ticket to each of the films showing at the Skyway Drive In.  Tickets and more information at jewishyoungstown.org/filmfest. 

 

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Jewish Film Festival: The Crossing

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation presents the film drama, Viral: The Crossing, beginning Tuesday, September 29, with online access for 48 hours. When their parents are arrested for hiding Jewish children, 10-year-old Gerda and her brother Otto take up the task of hiding young Sarah and Daniel from the Nazis and helping them escape into Sweden. Tickets are $25 for all 7 films, as well as a ticket to each of the films showing at the Skyway Drive In.  Tickets and more information at jewishyoungstown.org/filmfest.

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation presents the film documentary, Viral: Antisemitism in Four Mutations, beginning Wednesday, September 23, with online access for 48 hours. YSU Dana Alumni Recital Series Presents Caitlin Hedge with Dave Lynn

Opening the YSU Dana Alumni Recital Series, in collaboration with the McDonough Museum of Art, is duo Caitlin Hedge, violin, and Dave Lynn, guitar, premiering Saturday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. on the Cliffe College and McDonough YouTube channels. This is a prerecorded event. Hedge and Lynn will perform original folk songs, and traditional Irish fiddle arrangements, with some bluegrass added in. More information is available on the WYSU Facebook page, under events.

McDonough Muse Concert Series: Virtual Performance by the Dana Piano Trio

Opening the McDonough Museum of Art’s 2020 Muse Series on Sunday, August 30, at 2:00 p.m. is the Dana Piano Trio in recital in pre-recorded format on both the YSU and McDonough Museum YouTube channels. The program will feature contemporary and older works by Clara Schumann and Anton Webern. The Muse Series features innovative expressions of contemporary culture, serving to enrich Northeast Ohio with recitals of groundbreaking new music and dynamic collaborations. 

[An additional concert in the series is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m.]

YSU Alumni Lecture - McDonough Museum of Art: Scribe Literary Collaboration

As part of the YSU Alumni Lecture Series, Claudia Berlinski, McDonough Museum Director, will provide insight into the Scribe literary collaborative, on Thursday, August 27, at 7 pm. Scribe is a program by the John J McDonough Museum of Art intended to foster ongoing partnerships between the visual and literary arts. This will be a Facebook Live event available on the Youngstown State Alumni Engagement Facebook page, on Thursday, August 27, at 7 pm.
