LitYoungstown: Giving Voice: Mahoning Valley Hispanic Culture, Manuel Iris, Poet-in-Residence

LitYoungstown presents Giving Voice: Mahoning Valley Hispanic Culture, with Poet-in-Residence Manuel Iris, on Saturday, April 2, at noon - 2:00 pm, at The Community Literacy Workforce & Cultural Center, 436 Struthers Coitsville Road.  It is a bilingual afternoon of award-winning poetry, storytelling, cuisine from local restaurants, & music by the Labra Brothers. Mahoning Valley Historical Society: Bites and Bits of History

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society presents the free program Bites and Bits of History, on Thursday, March 17 at noon at the Tyler History Center on Federal Plaza, in Youngstown.   The program will be Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association: A Legacy of Dignity, Strength, and Caring, 1966 – 2018, given by Marcelle R. Wilson, PhD—Site Manager, Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor.   

 

Butler Institute of American Art

The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown presents the exhibit Steranko and the American Hero, through Sunday, May 29. The exhibit features 65 paintings from artist Jim Steranko that visualize popular fictional heroes, including Han Solo, Conan, Indiana Jones, Captain America and The X-Men. The Butler is open from 11 am to 4 pm, Tuesday through Saturday; and noon to 4 pm on Sundays. [A meet-the-artist reception, An Intimate Evening with Steranko, is scheduled for Saturday, April 9,  from 6 to 8 pm, at the Butler. More information at Butler Art dot com.

The 46th Cleveland International Film Festival - CIFF46

WYSU is proud to be a media partner for the 46th Cleveland International Film Festival, taking place March 30th through April 9th at Playhouse Square, followed by CIFF46 [SIF forty-six] Streams taking place online April 10th though April 17th. This year’s Festival will showcase more than 300 films, and will welcome many guest filmmakers who will be on-hand for both in-person and virtual Q&As. Stage Left Players: You Can't Take It With You

The Stage Left Players present the classic comedy You Can’t Take It With You, at the historic Trinity Playhouse in downtown Lisbon.  Weekend performances from Friday, February 11 through Sunday February 20, with evening showsat 7:00, and the Sunday matinees at 2:00.  Reservations can be made online at stageleftplayers.org.  Tickets will also be available at the door.

Stambaugh Chorus: Spring 2022 Season

The Stambaugh Chorus is seeking singers for its Spring 2022 season, highlighted by a performance of John Rutter's Requiem, and other selections with a theme of peace. Winter Wine Affair at Stambaugh Auditorium

Stambaugh Auditorium presents the 7th annual Winter Wine Affair on Saturday, January 15th.  Enjoy live music, food vendors, and more while tasting wine samples from wineries all over Ohio.  The event consists of two sessions beginning at 2 and 6 PM, with an extra hour beforehand for VIP ticket-holders.  VIP and regular tickets can be purchased online at stambaughauditorium.com, or by calling the box office at 330-259-0555.

Youngstown Symphony Orchestra: An Evening of the Romantics

The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra presents An Evening of the Romantics, on Sunday, January 16, at 4 pm, at Powers Auditorium, in downtown Youngstown. Led by principal guest conductor Miriam Burns, the orchestra will perform works by Bartok, Brahms, and Beethoven, and will feature violinist Stephen Tavani. Mahoning Valley Historical Society: Bites and Bits of History: The 1914 Christmas Truce

Mahoning Valley Historical Society announces its December Bites and Bits of History lunchtime program at Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal Street, in Youngstown. A World War I Christmas: The 1914 Christmas Truce is the title of the free presentation at noon on Thursday, December 16. The program will be presented by Dr. George Johnson.
