Violinist Performs March 3 at St. John's Church

St. John's Episcopal Church and WYSU welcome acclaimed American violinist Andrew Sords on Saturday, March 3.  Sords will perform a free concert at 4 p.m. at St. John's , 323 Wick Avenue. The program includes the following pieces: 

  • Fritz Kreisler  -  Praeludium and Allegro
  • Ludwig van Beethoven  -  Sonata No. 8 in G major, Op. 30 No. 3
  • Eugene Ysaye  -  Sonata No. 4 in e minor (dedicatee: Fritz Kreisler)
  • Pablo de Sarasate  - Habanera from Carmen Fantas
  • Camille Saint-Saens  -  Sonata No. 1 in d minor

There will be an intermission before the final Sonata No. 1.

Sords is a native of Newark, Delaware, where he began piano lessons at 5, and shortly thereafter asked for a violin!  He studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Southern Methodist University.  Early competition success led to international management, various debuts, and appearances with celebrated conductors.  During his career he has collaborated with 300 orchestras on four continents. 

This is his second time performing in Youngstown at St. John's Church.  WYSU is a co-sponsor of this event and admission is free.  More information can be found at www.stjohnohio.org.
