The YSU Alumni and Friends Virtual Book Club will discuss Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson as its July selection, on Tuesday, June 28th, at 7 pm. The discussion panel will share their thoughts and respond to questions submitted in the Facebook comments. Join the discussion on the YSU Virtual Club Facebook Page.

[A trio of individuals with broad experience working on issues of racial justice will join regular panelists Bridgid Cassin '19, Colleen Duchon '02, and Starr Jones for this discussion on the YSU Alumni Engagement Facebook page on Tuesday, July 28 at 7:00 p.m. They are:

Dionne Dowdy - Executive Director of United Returning Citizens (widely known as URC), an in-depth program in Youngstown designed for re-entry into life after being incarcerated. URC offers an array of work education and employment services, housing assistance, and case management services that include money management, character building, single mother resources, and substance abuse programs. 

Atty. John M. Petit - Managing Attorney for Community Legal Aid’s housing and consumer programs. In this role, he oversees cases and legal projects related to housing stability, foreclosures, evictions, preserving subsidies, discrimination and debtor defense. 

Monica Merrill - Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice & Forensic Sciences at Youngstown State University. Her areas of expertise are criminology, victimization, sexual assault, and inequalities of gender, race, and class. 

Bridgid Cassin '19, Library Assistant, and Starr Jones, Library Supervisor, represent the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County , while Colleen Duchon '02 serves as Reference Librarian, Health & Human Services at Maag Library.
