Opera Western Reserve is seeking local actors for its production of Romeo and Juliet. The reimagined production will combine text from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and orchestral and vocal music from Gounod's opera. Auditions will take place on Monday, August 9 from 7 to 9 pm, and on Tuesday, August 10 from 4 to 6 pm, at Stambaugh Auditorium, in Youngstown. An advanced audition appointment is not necessary. Actors should prepare a short Shakespearian monologue, be prepared to read an excerpt from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in English, and should dress appropriately for movement.

Opera Western Reserve (OWR) is seeking local actors for "Romeo + Juliet". This re-imagined production will combine text from Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet and orchestral and vocal music from Gounod's opera, 'Roméo et Juliette' sung in French. The roles of Romeo & Juliet will be sung in the original French, cast with opera singers.

We are auditioning specifically for the roles of: Paris *, Abram *; (* stage combat experience preferred for consideration for Paris and Abram), Capulet, Lady Capulet, Montague, Lady Montague, Nurse, and Friar, which will perform Shakespeare monologue and dialogue in English.

Auditions will be held on Monday, August 9 from 7-9pm, and Tuesday, August 10 from 4-6pm, at Stambaugh Auditorium. Contracts are paid. The production will be performed with a reduced orchestra at Stambaugh Auditorium on November 12, 2021. Rehearsals begin in October. Advanced audition appointment not necessary.

Actors should prepare a short Shakespearian monologue and be prepared to read an excerpt from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" in English, and should dress appropriately for movement.

OWR is casting performers of all ethnicities, gender identities and expressions, ages, abilities and body types for mainstage, spoken roles.  

This fully-staged production with costumes, lighting, and digital scene design will feature daring sword fights choreographed by Jason Paul Tate, an acclaimed New York City based director, choreographer and performer whose credits include the Public Theatre's Shakespeare in the Park and the Metropolitan Opera.  Devised and Directed by Scott Skiba. Guest conductor, Maestro Dean Buck (OWR audiences know maestro from his work as guest conductor for, A Taste of Traviata Nov. 2020) leads the OWR Orchestra.  English language super titles will be projected for the entire performance spoken in English and sung in French.
