Youngstown Area Jewish Federation: Testament by Debra DeGregorio Opening Reception

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation presents the Opening Rection for Testament, by Debra DeGregorio, on Wednesday, October 16, at 5:30 pm. The work of mixed media artist Debra DeGregorio ranges from large, drawn and printed natural forms, to bright ‘micro-installations,’ using collage, string and sequins on pins. DeGregorio teaches at Youngstown State University.

Youngstown Playhouse: Staged Reading of Into the Beautiful North

The Youngstown Playhouse presents a Staged Reading of Luis Alberto Urrea's novel Into the Beautiful North, on Sunday, October 13, at 2:30 pm, in the Moyer Room, a theater-in-the-round. It is part of the The NEA Big Read with events throughout October.

St. Patrick Church: The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra

St. Patrick Church in Youngstown presents a performance by the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, on Wednesday, October 30th,at 7 pm.  This concert is in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the premiere performance of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the parish or at 330-743-1109.  

Dragonhold Fantasy Festival: The Goblin King's Ball

The historic Beehive Coke Ovens Park in Leetonia will be transformed into a fantasy land filled with adventure and fun for all ages, on October 12, noon - 8: pm. This year's theme is The Goblin King's Ball, featuring goblins, orcs, and other fantasy creatures that will cause mayhem throughout the day! There will be a Masquerade Ball at 6 pm. Mahoning County Chapter Ohio Genealogy Society: The Genealogist Is In

October is Family History Month.  Join members of the Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society and the Trumbull County Genealogical Society, Mondays during the month of October from 2pm to 4pm at Dunkin' Donuts, 4305 Belmont Avenue to get help with your family research, from how to get started to research roadblocks. YSU Ward Beecher Planetarium: Wizard Weekend

In collaboration with YSU's Room of Requirement, the YSU Ward Beecher Planetarium presents a magical weekend celebrating all things Harry Potter and in the J.K. Rowling universe! Learn about the night sky and how it relates to the wizarding world. Test your knowledge for a chance to earn house points. Ashtabula County District Library: Mental Health Forum Discussion

The Ashtabula County District Library will present a mental health forum discussion on the topic of suicide, featuring some the area’s leading suicide prevention advocates, on Monday, October 28, at 6:00 pm, at the Jefferson Memorial Public Library, 54 East Jefferson Street, Jefferson.  This is a follow up to an earlier screening of the film Suicide: The Ripple Effect.
