City Club of the Mahoning Valley: The Decline in Unions and the Decline in Respect for American Workers

The City Club of the Mahoning Valley presents a talk on The Decline in Unions and the Decline in Respect for American Workers, by Steven Greenhouse, on Friday, November 22, at 5 pm, at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, on Wood Street, in Youngstown.  Greenhouse explains the evolution of the labor movement, and how workers can seize power in a changing economy.  Greenhouse is author of Beaten Down, Worked Up: The Past, Present, and Future of American Labor.  

 

 

 

Ashtabula Area Orchestra: 26th Annual Christmas Concerts

The Ashtabula Area Orchestra presents its 26th Annual Holiday Concerts, on Saturday, December 7th at 7 pm, at Lakeside High School Performing Arts Center, in Ashtabula; and Sunday, December 8th at 3 pm, at the Geneva High School Auditorium, in Geneva. The concert will featurieorchestral versions of beloved Christmas carols and traditional holiday music, including movie favorites. First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown: 39th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner

The First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, at the corner of Wick Avenue and Wood Street, will host a FREE Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 21, 4:30 - 6:30 pm. A full-course turkey dinner, with stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls, dessert, and beverages will be served. This is the 39th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the community. 

League of Women Voters of Mercer County: Candidates Forum

The League of Women Voters of Mercer County is sponsoring a Candidates Forum for those seeking election to the office of Mercer County Commissioner and of Judge of the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas, on Thursday, October 24 at 7:00 pm, at the Hickory VFW Normandy Banquet Center, located at 5550 East State Street (Route 62) in Hermitage.  The Candidates Forum is free and open to the public.

 

Solemn Evensong with the Ambrose Romano Singers of Pittsburgh

The Ambrose Romano Singers of Pittsburgh are coming to St. John's Episcopal Church to lead a Solemn Evensong marking All Saints' Day, on Sunday November 3, at 4 pm. The Ambrose Romano Singers are known for preserving great choral music from both the eastern and western portions of the Christian Church. St. John's is located at 323 Wick Avenue, in Youngstown. 

Trumbull County Genealogical Society: November Meeting

The monthly meeting of the Trumbull County Genealogical Society will be held on Tuesday, November 12, at 10:15 am, in the Thomas Meeting Room, at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Avenue, N.W., in Warren. Friends of Poland Municipal Forest: Fall Foliage Hike

The Friends of Poland Municipal Forest are hosting a Fall Foliage Hike! Enjoy the vibrant colors and learn the biology behind the color changes. The hike will be led and co-sponsored by Julie Bartolone of WildYou. Meet at the College Street entrance to Poland Municipal Forest at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 19. The event is free, the pace will be easy and there is no charge to attend. 

Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor: The Way We Worked Exhibit Opening

The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, in Youngstown, presents The Way We Worked Exhibit Opening, on Saturday, October 26, noon - 4 pm.  This free exhibition will be on display from Saturday, October 26 through Sunday, January 12. Museum hours are Wednesday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturdays 12 pm to 4 pm.
