YSU Dana School of Music: Flute and Piano Duo in Concert: Kathryn Thomas Umble and Anthony Ruggiero

The YSU Dana School of Music presents a concert with flutist Kathryn Thomas Umble and pianist Anthony Ruggiero, on Saturday, January 25, at 7 pm, at the McDonough Museum of Art, on Wick avenue, in Youngstown.  Featured will be new compositions by Andrew Mead and Valerie Coleman,with works by Charles-Marie Widor, Bela Bartok, and Lowell Liebermann. 

Austintown Band Parents Club, Inc.: 5th Annual Jazz & Dessert Festival

Austintown Band Parents Club present its 5th Annual Jazz & Dessert Festival Bands, on Saturday, January 25, at 6 pm.  The Austintown Middle School 7th & 8th grade Jazz Band, Fitch Jazz 1 and Jazz 2 Bands, and the Austintown Alumni Jazz bands perform throughout the evening.  More information at

Vienna United Methodist Church: Life Size Candyland Game

The Vienna United Methodist Church presents a free Life Size Version of the Candyland Game, on Friday, December 13, 3:30 pm - 8 pm; Saturday, December 14, noon - 7 pm; and Sunday, December 15, noon - 5 pm. There is no set start time for games, simply come whenever you wish during the open hours. The Vienna Methodist Church is located at 4265 Warren-Sharon Road, in Vienna. 

City Club of the Mahoning Valley: The Capital Budget for Ohio

The City Club of the Mahoning Valley presents a free Views and Brews panel discussion on The Capital Budget for Ohio, on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 pm, at Suzie's Dogs & Drafts, on North Phelps Street, in downtown Youngstown.  The panel looks into the questions: What funding is available for community projects in the Mahoning Valley in the next capital budget? What projects are under consideration and how will they further the economic development of the region?

Christ Episcopal Church, Warren: A Festival of Lessons and Carols

Christ Episcopal Church in Warren will hold its free annual Christmas Festival of Lessons and Carols, on Sunday, December 15 at 6 pm.  The evening will include carols of the season, as well as new compositions for chorus and orchestra.  [This concert will feature The Parish Choir, the Children’s Choir, Handbell Choir, a professional chamber orchestra, with organist Richard Konzen.  Amanda Beagle will be the featured soloist.  James W. Shiell, Director of Music and the Arts at Christ Church, will conduct the concert.]

Jackson Township Citizens Association: North Jackson Community Tree Lighting

The North Jackson Citizens Association is sponsoring its the annual North Jackson Community Tree Lighting, on Sunday, December 1st at 6 pm, at the Township's Gazebo, at 10613 Mahoning Avenue.  There will be music, caroling, and a visit from Santa is expected.  

The McDonough Museum of Art: Public Reception

Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County: Inner Peace After Abuse

The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County presents Inner Peace After Abuse, on Saturday, November 16, at 2 pm, at the Newport Library. Hear from motivational speaker Michelle Carter-Douglass, a survivor of several domestic violence relationships since the age of 15. She discusses how she overcame trials and tribulations, healed from the storms of abuse and violence, and continues to overcome obstacles in life.  For adults and teens.



YSU Ward Beecher Planetarium: So You Want to Buy a Telescope?

 The YSU Ward Beecher Planetarium presents the program So You Want to Buy a Telescope?, on Saturday, November 23, from 3 - 5 pm. Experts from the Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society will provide advice to telescope owners.  Drop-in anytime during the two hours.

WYSU:FM: 50th Anniversary Planetarium Show

Join 88.5 WYSU for another 50th anniversary event as YSU's Ward Beecher Planetarium hosts a special free show for the members and friends of WYSU on Sunday, November 17, at 2 pm. The theme for our special planetarium show is 50th Anniversaries: WYSU-FM, The Moonwalk, and The Ward Beecher Planetarium. [Since this program is on a Sunday, there will be plenty of free street parking available on Lincoln Avenue and North Phelps Street.]
