Sal Giunta presents: Uncommon Valor: The Importance of Teamwork, Sacrifice and Leadership

Sal Giunta, first living Medal of Honor Recipient Since the Vietnam War and author of Living with Honor, will present a free lecture on Wednesday, September 17, at 7:30 pm at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown.  Mr. Giunta will sign books after the lecture.  The event is open to the public.  Tickets are free, but are mandatory.  They can be picked up at the Stambaugh Auditorium Box Office weekdays between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm.

 

Stephen Snyder-Hill, Soldier of Change

Stephen Snyder-Hill will be on the campus of Youngstown State University on Friday, October 3, at 2:00 pm in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center to discuss his new book, Soldier of Change, from the Closet to the Forefront of the Gay Rights Movement.  Th event is free and is open to the public.  Mr. Snyder-Hill will sign books brought to the event.

 

Reunion II Alumni Invitational

The YSU McDonough Museum of Art presents the Reunion II Alumni Invitational, which runs through November 7.  The YSU Department of Art along with the McDonough have invited a selection of the most distinguished alumni, many of whom have achieved national and international, to participate in a group exhibition. St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ashtabula Concert

The Oberlin Baroque Trio from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music will perform a concert of classical music at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in downtown Ashtabula on Sunday, October 5, at 3:00 pm. The concert is sponsored by the Fine Arts Concert Series of the Church and is part of the Church’s on-going “Great Music Without Barriers” Concert Series. The Literary Society of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Speaker

The Literary Society of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host author and speaker Jennifer Weiner (whiner) on Thursday, September 18, at the Lake Club in Poland. Jen is known for her books In Her Shoes and The Guy Not Taken, as well as numerous tv appearances.  The evening begins with an author reception and cocktails at 6:00 pm followed by dinner and a presentation by Ms. Weiner (whiner). Life After High School

Salem Public Library announces the "Life after High School" series designed for high school juniors, seniors and interested graduates.  The three-part series will help students prepare for brighter futures by explaining some of the options in education and training.  The events will take place on Tuesdays, September 2, 9 & 16, 6:30 - 8:00 pm, in Room 23 of the Salem Memorial Building located at 785 E. YSU Wind Ensemble Concert

The Dana School of Music announces an outdoor concert by the YSU Wind Ensemble on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:00 pm, at Harrison Common, located on Walnut Street across from the MVR. The concert features a variety of music including music from the soundtrack of the movie Robin Hood to a patriotic Armed Forces Salute. The concert is free and open to the public. YSU Centofanti Annual Symposium

The Youngstown State University Centofanti Annual Symposium presents Salvatore Augustine Giunta, the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor for service in Iraq or Afghanistan, the first living service member to be awarded the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War, and the eighth service member to receive the nation's highest military decoration for valor in Iran and Afghanistan.  The Symposium will take place on Wednesday, September 17 at 7:30 pm at Stambaugh Auditorium.

Mahoning Valley Historical Society Founders Day Open House

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is hosting a free Founders Day Open House at the Arms Family Museum on Sunday September 7th from 1-5 pm, in celebration of the Society’s 139th anniversary.  The museum will be open for tours, the education staff will have indoor and outdoor games and activities for all ages and refreshments. Commercial Composting Outlook meeting

A session to explore how to divert the region’s organic wastes from landfills to create biologically compost will be held on Thursday, September 11, from 1:00 to 4:30 pm at Fellows Riverside Gardens of Mill Creek MetroParks. Topics at the free public session will include identifying and collecting materials; compost benefits to business, families and communities; complying with siting and regulations; finding suitable markets; and exploring multiple aspects of profitability. Registration information is available at 330-549-9408.
