Talk: Climate as the Great Reckoning

The First Unitarian Universalist Church on Elm Street in Youngstown, presents a talk on Monday, October 6, at 7:00 pm, by Rev. Michael Dowd on “The Future Is Calling Us to Greatness: Climate as the Great Reckoning.“ Dowd is the author of "Thank God for Evolution", focusing on the possibility of reconciling science and religion. 

Dana School of Music Fall Choral Concert

The YSU Dana School of Music presents the Fall Choral Concert, by the The Dana Chorale, University Chorus, and Women’s Chorus, on Monday, October 20, at7:30 pm, at St. Columba Cathedral on wood Street in Youngstown.  The concert is titled Sing on Justice, Truth, Love, and Peace!, featuring Mozart’s Miss brevis in D Major, selections from Handel’s Messiah and many more masterpieces. The concert is free and open to the public.

Art Outreach Gallery 1st Annual Juried Holiday Show

The Art Outreach Gallery at the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles announces the 1st Annual Juried Holiday Art Show, "pARTridge in a Pear Tree, running Friday, November 21 through Sunday, January 4. An artist reception will be held Friday, December 5.  The 2014 Holiday Show guidelines and applications can be downloaded at www.artoutreach.org or picked up at the Art Outreach Gallery.  Holiday hours for the Gallery are Friday 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Saturday 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and Sunday 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Community Artworks Regional Annual Artist’s Exhibition

 

 The Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles presents the Community Artworks Regional Annual Artist’s Exhibition, a juried exhibit featuring artwork by area artists, through Sunday, November 10. The exhibit showcases artists from a 50 mile radius in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Gallery hours are Friday 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Saturday 1:00pm to 9:00pm, and Sunday 1:00pm to 5:00pm. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

 

2014 STIC (for Space Time Ideas Community)

 The Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles will host the third of six 2014 Space Time Ideas Community (STIC) events Thursday, October 2.  STIC is a non-partisan Art Outreach Gallery initiative whose goal is to help spread ideas worth spreading. Gallery doors open at 5:30 pm and the STIC program begins at 6:30. The event features two screenings from the TED Talks video archives. The opening video is “Choice, happiness and spaghetti sauce” by best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell. The second video,”Institutions vs.

Animal Charity Fur Ball

The second-annual Animal Charity Fur Ball takes place on Saturday, November 1, from 7 pm to 11 pm at the B&O Station in downtown Youngstown.  Ticket information is available at Animal Charity, at 4140 Market Street, in Boardman, or at acoofohio@gmail.com.  Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the event.

 

American Girl Doll Tea

The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor presents American Girl Doll Tea, on Saturday, October 25, at 1:00 pm.  Girls, their favorite doll, and Mom or Grandmother are invited. The event will include a light lunch of tea sandwiches, fruit and sweets, tea or pink lemonade, and crafts, games, and a brief tour of the museum.  More information and reservations are available at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor at 330-941-1314.

YSU Conference on Jewish Music: Concert

YSU’s Center for Judaic and Holocaust Studies and the YSU Dana School of Music are co-sponsoring a Conference on Jewish Music and Jewish Identity on the YSU campus, from Sunday, October 19 to Tuesday, October 21. The three days of events, which are open to the public, include academic presentations, two lecture recitals, a film screening, and a free performance by the Indian-Jewish ensemble Om Shalom Trio, on Sunday, October 19 at 7:30 pm, at the Jewish Community Center on Gypsy Lane in Youngstown..
