The Ursuline Center: From Sarajevo to Syria -- the Horror & Hope for Refugees

The Ursuline Center is presenting "From Sarajevo to Syria- the Horror & Hope for Refugees", a free lecture about oppression in war-torn areas, on Saturday, May 2nd, at 10:00 AM, at The Ursuline Center in Canfield. ALEC and the Oil & Gas Industry v. Source Water Protection & Home Rule in Ohio

Dr. Julie Weatherington-Rice of Bennett & Williams Environmental Consultants, is giving a talk on A-L-E-C and the Oil & Gas Industry v. Source Water Protection & Home Rule in Ohio: How we got to where we are and what we can do about it, as part of a free series on various aspects of energy including shale gas development, energy efficiency and renewable energy. St. Christine Health and Wellness Expo

The St. Christine School in Youngstown is holding its 2015 Health and Wellness Expo on Saturday, April 18th, at 9:00 AM. The expo will feature over fifty exhibits, medical screenings, a blood drive, and brunch. The event is free and open to the public with all ages welcome.

 

 

 

 

 

Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor: Antiques and Collectibles Appraisal Fair

The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor is presenting an antique and collectibles appraisal fair on Saturday, April 11th, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  Local experts can value and discuss your collectibles such as antiques, art, books, jewelry, toys, furniture, and memorabilia, with no weapons or firearms accepted.  This event is free and open to the public with parking in the museum lot. YSU STEM Showcase

The YSU STEM Showcase is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 2:00 - 4:30 pm, in Moser Hall on the YSU campus.  Highlights of the event include the Student Research Project Showcase, the BAJA Car Display, and the Concrete Canoe Display. Tours of the new Electron Microscopy Facility, the X-ray Diffraction Lab, and the new Center for Innovation in Additive Manufacturing are available.  This event is free and open to the public. Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival: Run Boy Run

The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival is presenting a feature film, Run Boy Run, as the final film in the spring festival on Tuesday, May 12th at 7:00 PM at Cinemark Tinseltown in Boardman.  Run Boy Run tells the extraordinary true story of a Polish boy who seeks the kindness of others in his solitary struggle to outlast the Nazi occupation and keep alive his Jewish faith. 

Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival: Above and Beyond

The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival is presenting the documentary film Above and Beyond, on Sunday, May 3rd, at 1:30 PM  at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown. As the first major feature-length documentary about the foreign airmen in the 1948 War, Above and Beyond brings together new interviews as well as aerial footage to present a fascinating, little-known tale.

Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival: The Testament

The Youngstown Area Jewish Film Festival, presents the Israeli film, The Testament, on Sunday, September 16, at 6:30 PM, at Movies 8 in Boardman. It tells the story of Yoel, a senior Holocaust researcher, is in the midst of a widely covered legal battle with powerful forces in Austria, concerning a brutal massacre of Jews that took place toward the end of WWII in the village of Lensdorf.   Tickets available at Movies 8 Boardman.

Arab American Cultural & Educational Center Lecture

The Arab American Cultural & Educational Center is presenting a lecture by Palestinian journalist and author Hani Al Masri, on Saturday, March 14 at 7:00 pm, at the Arab American Cultural & Educational Center, 15 Belgrade Avenue, off Belmont Avenue in Youngstown. Al-Masri is Director General of Masarat, the Palestinian Center for Policy Research and Strategic Studies.

 

 

YSU Diversity of Scholarship

The Youngstown State University College of Graduate Studies and Office of Research presents Diversity of Scholarship, on Thursday, March 19, at 6:00 pm, Jones Room in Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. A diverse group of presenters will discuss their scholarly activity and the role it has played in their university experience. Faculty mentors will introduce the presenters and provide an overview. Members of the YSU community and the general public are invited to attend.
