YSU Diversity of Scholarship

The Youngstown State University College of Graduate Studies and Office of Research presents Diversity of Scholarship, on Thursday, March 19, at 6:00 pm, Jones Room in Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. A diverse group of presenters will discuss their scholarly activity and the role it has played in their university experience. Faculty mentors will introduce the presenters and provide an overview. Members of the YSU community and the general public are invited to attend. Screening of Writer-director Chris Rutushin's Movie Fine-Tune

The YSU Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures present Emmy Award winner and Youngstown native Chris Rutushin, hosting a screening of his movie Fine-Tune, followed by a question and answer session, in room 132 DeBartolo Hall on the YSU Campus on Thursday, March 26, at 7:00 pm .  Originally released in 2008,  the film was inspired by Rutushin's memories and images of Italian American family life in the 1970s.  The screening is free and open to the public.  

Frackfree Mahoning Valley Town Hall meeting

Nationally renowned leader, 2003 Nobel Peace Prize nominee, environmental justice advocate, and author, Lois Gibbs will be the keynote speaker at a Frackfree Mahoning Valley town hall-style meeting  on Friday, March 13, at 7:00 pm, at the The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown, at 1105 Elm Street, in Youngstown. Gibbs is founder and Executive Director of the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice, a national nonprofit that empowers people to build healthy communities.

Canfield Community Band Winter Concert

The Canfield Community Concert Band will present a concert on Sunday, March 22 at 3:00 pm in the auditorium at Canfield High School. The theme of the concert is Crossing Borders and the program will feature music for wind band representing classic and contemporary styles from around the world.

2015 Pittsburgh Orchid Show

The Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania is holding its annual Orchid Show on Saturday, March 21, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday, March 22, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Phipps Garden Center in Pittsburgh. BUILDING ART 2015

BUILDING ART 2015, the annual celebration of the creative artists and great works happening at the Morley Arts Building in Youngstown, is scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, at 7:00 pm. The Morley Arts Building, located at 218 West Boardman Street in Youngstown, is the home to Ballet Western Reserve, Ballet Western Reserve Center for Dance Education. Shipka Speakers Series: "The Culture of Distraction: Why the Young Need to Fight It"

The Shipka Speakers Series of the YSU Department of Philosophy & Religious Studies is presenting a lecture by Susan Jacoby: “The Culture of Distraction: Why the Young Need to Fight It,” based on her best-selling book The Age of American Unreason.  The lecture will be presented on Tuesday, March 24th, 12:30 p.m., in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center on the YSU campus. This event is free and open to the public.

YSU Adult Learner Open House

Youngstown State University presents an exclusive Adult Learner Open House for potential non-traditional students who are interested in attending YSU, on Wednesday, April 29th, 5:00 - 8:00 pm.  Attendees can speak one-on-one with representatives from the various academic colleges.  There will be information on how to apply for Fall 2015, how to pay for college, and much more.  Information and reservations at 330-941-3243, 1-877-GO-TO-YSU, and on the web at www.ysu.edu/admissions.

2015 YSU Diversity Leadership Recognition Dinner and Scholarship Benefit Concert

The 2015 YSU Diversity Leadership Recognition event will honor the diversity & inclusion efforts of area leaders, on Friday, March 27th, at Stambaugh Auditorium.  The dinner and awards begin at 5:30 pm, featuring guest speaker Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr., the 2011 Winner of America's Got Talent. Murphy will also give a concert at 8:00 pm following the dinner. Celebration of Music Song Service

Singers from around the region are invited to participate in a Celebration of Music Song Service under the direction of Jared Jacobsen on Sunday, March 15, at 4:00 pm, at the Lakeside Performing Arts Center in Ashtabula. Mr. Jacobsen is the organist, choir director and director of worship at Chautauqua Institute, NY. Jacobsen will lead the choir and audience in a concert celebration of music in the format of a Chautauqua Sacred Song Service.  Interested singers are invited to join the Ashtabula County Choral Music Society in pre-concert rehearsals at 1:30 pm.
