Play in May for the YWCA

The YWCA of Youngstown is presenting Play in May for the YWCA, featuring artist Brenda Myers Cohen, on Wednesdays, May 6th through the 27th, at 10:00 am. Brenda will instruct participants in creating a 5'' x 7'' art project.The cost is $6 per person, with all supplies included. Registration is not required. More information is available at

First Baptist Church of Hubbard: Blessing of Bikes and Riders

The First Baptist Church of Hubbard is holding a "Blessing of the Bikes and Riders" on Sunday, May 31st, from 10:15 AM to 2:00 PM. A special worship of celebration and music will be held with a free picnic of hot dogs and popcorn plus a gift included. 1st Annual Black Tie Affair

Inspiring Minds' 1st Annual Black Tie Affair in Youngstown is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at 6:00 pm, at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. The evening will feature keynote speaker Jim Tressel; appearances by Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and YSU football coach Bo Pelini; dinner and dancing; and the opportunity to learn more about Inspiring Minds. Since 2006, over 2,000 students have participated in the program's Education, Health & Wellness, College & Career Readiness and Personal Development activities.

The Mahoning Valley Chorale: From Italy With Love

 The Mahoning Valley Chorale, under the direction of Kris Harper, will present a concert, “From Italy With Love” at the Brier Hill Cultural Center, 145 Jefferson St., in Youngstown on Sunday, April 26th at 3:00 pm.  The concert will feature Italian opera, love songs and folk songs.  Tickets can be reserved by calling 330-707-2144 and will also be available at the door. 


YWCA Warren Stand Against Racism

On Thursday, April 23 at 5:30 pm, YWCA Warren will participate in the national event, Stand Against Racism, and invites the community to a free screening of the film Hidden Colors 3: The Rules of Racism. The event is intended to raise awareness of the negative effects of racism on individuals and communities and provide a safe space for civil dialogue. The event will be held at the YWCA Warren, 375 North Park Ave., just north of Courthouse Square.


Fallen City Writers: Open Reading

Fallen City Writers will present a reading from their recently published anthology on Sunday, April 19th at 2:00 pm, at the Oak Hill Collaborative, 507 Oak Hill, in Youngstown.  Parking available in lot on lower level.  Please use entrance at lower level door.  This is a celebration of the new anthology and National Poetry Month.  

Artists of the Mahoning Commons: Spring Open Studio

The Artists of the Mahoning Commons Spring Open Studio is on Saturday, May 6th and Sunday, May 7th from noon to 5:00 pm both days at the Ward Bakery Building, located at 1024 Mahoning Ave in Youngstown.  Artist's studios will be open featuring silks, photos, paintings, jewelry, ceramics,music, and many many other fun things to see and do. 


Sisters in Red Annual Health Fair

The Links, Incorporated Youngtown Chapter, Mercy Health, Anthem, Youngstown State University and the American Heart Association will hold the 10th annual health fair 300 Sisters in Red, in the Kilcawley Center atYoungstown State University, on Saturday, April 18, from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm.  Participants must be registered for the fasting blood health screenings. Register information is available at  330-480-3070.
