MVHS 140th Birthday Party

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will host a free birthday party celebration on Saturday, September 12th from Noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 West Federal Street in downtown Youngstown. The event will include kids activities, behind the scenes access to the archives collections, a salute to local history, and like all good birthday parties...cake! Youngstown Ward Citizens Coalition Meeting

The next meeting of the Youngstown 6th Ward Citizens Coalition is on Monday, September 14 at 6:00 pm, at the in Newport Library, on Market Street in Youngstown. The mission of the Coalition is bring together citizens, block watches and other neighborhood organizations to spur on civic engagement and community development in Youngstown's 6th Ward. The Poland Historical Society: Dressed for the Day!

The Poland Historical Society is presenting "Dressed for the Day!" on Saturday, October 3rd, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Poland Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. Fifth Annual Nonviolence Parade and Rally

Fifth Annual Nonviolence Parade and Rally is scheduled for Sunday, October 4, at 3:00 pm, in downtown Youngstown. The parade will start on W. Wood and Wick streets and proceed downtown. It is open to all nonprofit organizations. More information at pennywells@sbcglobal.net.

Slice of Life Stories & Dessert

Lit Youngstown and the YWCA of Youngstown are hosting the "Slice of Life" event on Tuesday September 29th, at 7:00 pm, at the YWCA in Downtown Youngstown. The event features storytelling of true tales from local writers, with desserts provided. Lit Youngstown Reading Series: Major Ragain & Joe Caley

Lit Youngstown presents a reading by Kent poets Major Ragain and Joe Caley, on Wednesday September 2, at 7:00 pm, at Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts on N. Phelps St. in downtown Youngstown. Ragain with five collections of poetry and Caley, a decorated Vietnam veteran, are facilitators of the Kent Veterans Writers’ Circle. The reading is free and open to the public. Annual Tribute to Black Excellence

The Youngstown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority presents its Annual Tribute to Black Excellence Award Dinner, honoring outstanding African Americans who contributed in Delta's Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Educational Awareness; Political Awareness; Physical and Mental Health; International Awareness, and Economic Development. The dinner is scheduled for Friday, September 25, at 6:30 pm.

The African American Male Wellness Walk Initiative

The African American Male Wellness Walk Initiative presents a wellness 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, August 15, at 7:00 am at the Covelli Center in downtown Youngstown. Free health screenings are also available. More information available at .aawalk.org.

Beaver Creek State Park: Big Foot Day

Big Foot Day is coming this Saturday, August 16, to Beaver Creek State Park. There is a Pancake Breakfast at the Pioneer Village Barn Pavilion from 8:00 am - noon. Big Foot researchers will be speaking at the Barn throughout the afternoon. Vendors will be open for business from 11:00 am - 6:00 pm. More information at 724-777-4803.

Trumbull Mahoning Lupus Support Group

The Lupus Foundation of America is holding a meeting for the Trumbull Mahoning Lupus Support Group on Tuesday, August 11th, at 7:00 pm, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
