Boardman United Methodist Church: Boardman Community Hymn Sing

The Boardman United Methodist Church presents the Boardman Community Hymn Sing, Monday, March 2, at 7 pm, at Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market Street, in Boardman.  The Boardman United Methodist Church and the Westminster Presbyterian Church choirs will be featured, along with the Boardman High School Choirs. [This is an ecumenical event, and a free-will offering will be taken of which all proceeds will benefit the Boardman Local Schools music department.]

City Club of the Mahoning Valley: Brain Gain

The City Club of the Mahoning Valley Views and Brews presents a panel discussion on Brain Gainon Monday, February 10, at 7:00 pm, at Suzie's Dogs and Drafts, in downtown Youngstown.  "Brain drain," the migration of talented, educated, and/or creative young people out of a region, is one of the top concerns among employers in the Mahoning Valley. In this unique Views & Brews forum we learn from the students themselves what they see as the future of the Mahoning Valley.  The program will be moderated by Jeremy Lydic of The Business Journal.

Christ Episcopal Church, Warren: Gospel Mass

The Christ Church Parish Choir along with members from other local church choirs will present the Ohio premiere of Andre Thomas’ new Mass: A Celebration of Love and Joy, on Sunday, February 9 at 5 pm, at Christ Church, 2627 Atlantic Street NE, in Warren.  This performance is in celebration of Black History Month and is free and open to the public. 

Mahoning Valley Historical Society: Selma: 55 Years Later

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society, the Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past and the MLK Planning Committee present Selma: 55 Years Later, on Thursday, February 6, at 6 pm, in the Tyler History Center, in downtown Youngstown. This is a screening of Loki Mulholland’s documentary After Selma, with a keynote presentation by Joanne Bland, co-founder and former Director of the National Civil Rights Museum in Selma.  [A community discussion focused on voting rights and voter suppression will follow.]
