Lit Youngstown presents a six session writing through grief workshop with writer and teacher Alex Abruzzi on Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:30pm from April 2 through May 14 at the Girard Library. Sessions will include group poetry readings, peer-led discussion, thought-provoking prompts, and the opportunity to share work. The Sixth Annual Youngstown May Day Festival will be Friday May 1 through Sunday May 3 from 12-6pm at the Calvin Center at 755 Mahoning Ave for a fun, free celebration of labor, Beltane, climate justice, human rights, and community in the Valley. The festival is a family friendly place for great food, crafts, a May pole dance, workshops, games, and more.
The Youngstown Skatepark and Thrive Mahoning Valley present a free, pop-up skatepark on Friday, May 1 from 1:00-4:00pm on Phelps St in Youngstown for riders of all skill levels on skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters, in-line skates, and roller skates. More info at youngstownskatepark.org
The Trumbull New Theater presents the show "Deer Camp" weekends from Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 17 with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees at 3:00pm. The theater is located at 5883 Youngstown Warren Rd in Niles. "Deer Camp" is a comedy follows four friends on their annual deer hunting trip, it takes a turn when their wives give them an ultimatum. The Youngstown Press Club will observe World Press Freedom Day on Sunday, May 3 by reading the names of 129 journalists killed last year while practicing their profession at noon at the Butler Institute of American Art. The number of journalists killed in 2025 was the highest since the Committee to Protect Journalists began tracking these numbers in 1992.The event is free and open to the public.
The Butler Institute of American Art presents "Sensory Sundays" on the first Sunday of every month through November. The Butler will open 1 hour prior to typical hours, and will provide options for individuals including fidget toys, as well as a sensory guide and what to expect while visiting.
