CELL PHONE IS SELL OUT ON OPENING NIGHT!

Congratulations to WYSU underwriter, Youngstown State University Theater, for their successful production of "Dead Man's Cell Phone" -- so successful, in fact, that tonight's show on Friday, Sept. 29, is SOLD OUT! Lucky for fans the play runs through October 8, in Bliss Hall’s Spotlight Theater, with several showtimes available.

The play by Sarah Ruhl explores the paradox of modern technology's ability to both unite and isolate people in the digital age.

RIVELLO ENSEMBLE IN CONCERT MARCH 16

Take one jazz composer with respect for the tradition and an ear for modern classical music, add 12 supremely talented jazz musicians, and you get one band that uniquely blends notated and improvised music into an experience that moves the listener, musician or not! The Dave Rivello Ensemble is a twelve piece modern jazz orchestra playing new and original music, led by composer/conductor Dave Rivello. The ensemble will be playing a concert on Thursday, March 16 at 7:30 at Youngstown State University's Chestnut Room in Kilcawley Center. WYSU is sponsor of this free concert.

STEM SHOWCASE FEATURES CARS, CANOES, RESEARCH

The Youngstown State University STEM Showcase is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 2:00 - 4:30 pm, in Moser Hall, on the YSU campus. Highlights include the Student Research Project Showcase, the BAJA Car Display, and the Concrete Canoe Display.

The new Electron Microscopy Facility, the X-ray Diffraction Lab, and the new Center for Innovation in Additive Manufacturing will be open for tours.

PRESIDENT TRESSEL ON WYSU'S "LOOKING OUT" FRIDAY, SEPT. 19TH

WYSU's "Looking Out" has kicked off the Fall Schedule of new programming with some great guests -- including YSU President Jim Tressel. "Looking Out" host Dr. George McCloud talks with Tressel on a variety of topics of concern to the University. The segment will air this Friday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. on 88.5 WYSU. "Looking Out" is a forum where community leaders discuss issues that affect all of us -- from global concerns to issues here in our community. You can find "Looking Out" archived here.

YSU BOT INSTITUTIONAL ENGAGEMENT MEETING

The YSU Board of Trustees Institutional Engagement Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 6 at 3:00pm, and the General Meeting will be held on Thursday, June 7 at noon, both in the Trustees Meeting Room in Tod Hall on the YSU campus. The YSU Board of Trustees could address WYSU business at these meetings. The meetings are open to the public.

Join us on Wednesday, February 19th at 4:50pm during All Things Considered, and again on Thursday, February 20th at 8:50am during Morning Edition, for an interview with YSU president Dr. Randy Dunn about his recent resignation announcement.

This is the 19th year for Mad About the Arts and tickets are in great demand! Tickets are no longer available online but will be available at the door prior to the event (checks only, please).

TEDXYOUNGSTOWN ANNOUNCES SPEAKER LINE UP

TEDxYoungtown is pleased to announce the lineup of speakers for their inaugural event to be held on January 24, 2014, at the Williamson College of Business Administration on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The committee collected applications through the TEDxYoungstown.com website and held open casting calls on October 1, to find the first year speakers.
