WYSU's New Development Director Finds a way to Have it All!

For a big city girl who followed her Columbiana County-born husband to the area just under two years ago, Lisa Long has made quick work of fitting in and falling in love with the Mahoning Valley. As WYSU’s new Development Officer (replacing Ed Goist who moved to YSU Advancement in January) she will oversee underwriting for 88.5 FM. But her connection with public broadcasting began long ago.

Science is Brewing at OH WOW! this Month!

Where can you learn about the process of brewing great beer, while sampling in search of your favorites -- all for a good cause?  At the Science of Brewing, a fundraiser for OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children's Center for Science and Technology in downtown Youngstown.  The event is scheduled for Thursday, July 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the Center at 11 West Federal Street.  

Arts, Culture, Jazz Collide in Youngstown July!

The weekend of July 10-13 brings an explosion of music, art, cultural celebrations and fabulous food to Youngstown and Youngstown State University.  Events include:

• The Summer Festival of the Arts, on the campus of Youngstown State University – July 12 & 13
• The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Summerfest, N. Walnut Street, Youngstown – July 10 -13
• The Downtown Jazz Fest, Downtown Youngstown – July 12.

Board of Trustees Meeting

The YSU Board of Trustees general meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 18th at 3:00 pm, in Trustees Meeting Room in Tod Hall on the YSU campus. The YSU Board of Trustees is WYSU-FM's supervisory board and WYSU business could be addressed at this meeting. The meeting is open to the public.

Doing Good Changes Time Slot and Expands

WYSU's local interview segment Doing Good  is changing its time slot on 88.5 WYSU. Still airing on Tuesdays, the segment now airs at 5:45 and 7:45 am.  Another change -- Gina's program has been expanded from 3 minutes to 5 minutes, so you'll be hearing more from her and her guests!  

Spring 2014 Membership Drive Recap

On behalf of everyone at WYSU, we want to thank everyone who helped make our Spring 2014 Membership Drive a success. With your help, we were able to raise $114,271, just short of $115,000 goal. In addition, we are able to welcome 121 new members to the WYSU family!

We would also like to congratulate Dr. Robert Crafton of Slippery Rock, the winner of our Grand Prize- a trip for two on our 2015 Alaskan Cruise!

Canton Symphony in Orbit in April with The Planets

Created by filmmaker Duncan Copp, The Planets - An HD Odyssey is a spectacular video presentation of Gustav Holst’s cosmic masterpiece, The Planets. The video depicts the latest images from modern space exploration, and on Saturday, April 26, The Planets will be projected in HD on a giant screen over the stage at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall. The effect is a stunning visual canvas to accompany the Canton Symphony Orchestra performance of the musical score, Gerhardt Zimmermann, conductor.
