On Monday, February 22, the staffs of WYSU and the YSU Foundation, new neighbors in Melnick Hall, hosted an open house to show off the new location.
It is something to be celebrated as it is the first time in WYSU’s 46 year history that a space has been designated and designed specifically to house a public radio station. The open drew hundreds of people to both the WYSU and YSU Foundation offices, including a member of the Melnick family. See additional pictures on our Facebook page.
A couple of spots have opened up on our upcoming station-sponsored tour of Scandinavia, departing on May 12th this spring. We'll be spending two weeks exploring Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway, with an optional 3-day extension to St Petersburg. If you think you would like to join us, don't wait -- contact Barbara Krauss weekday mornings at (330) 941-3363 or anytime by e-mail, email@example.com.
There is a huge canon of music that is only enjoyed during the holidays and we want to help our listeners really enjoy the holiday season by offering an extended playlist of seasonal songs. Once again, WYSU will broadcast this special programming that reflects both the spiritual and secular side of the holiday season. We will feature many Christmas favorites, such as A Festival of Nine Lessons, and Carols, A St. Olaf Christmas, and A Chanticleer Christmas, as well as highlight a celebration of Chanukah.
POPS at the Ballpark, a Youngstown Symphony Concert scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, at Eastwood Field, was postponed due to weather. So far no new date has been set for the event, but new information will become available here at wysu.org or at the Mahoning Valley Scrappers website.
Youngstown State English Department faculty member Tim Francisco can be heard every Wednesday on 88.5 WYSU interviewing guests on a wide variety of local subjects, including educational, community and social issues. The segment airs during Morning Edition at 5:45 and 7:45.
The next edition of the WYSU Need to Know Newsletter will come out in September 2015!
We have decided to print three newsletters per year, taking the summer off to promote the station in other ways -- like participating in YSU Summer Festival of the Arts, and planning a WYSU member party for August 26 at Magic Tree in Boardman. So the September newsletter will be packed with photos and news about our summer activities, as well as information about events on our calendar this fall.
The YSU Board of Trustees General Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 15 at 3:00pm, in the Trustees Meeting Room in Tod Hall on the YSU campus. The YSU Board of Trustees could address WYSU business at this meeting. The meeting is open to the public.
Before her much-anticipated appearance in Youngstown on June 12, Krista Tippett, a Peabody Award-winning broadcaster and New York Times bestselling author, can be heard on 88.5 WYSU, as a guest of Doing Good. Gina Marinelli, the host of Doing Good, recently interviewed Tippett, and a portion of that conversation will air on WYSU Tuesday, June 9 at 5:45 a.m. and 7:45 a.m.
