The 19th Annual YSU Summer Festival of the Arts will be held at and around Youngstown State University, Saturday and Sunday, July 8 and 9. Artist applications for the juried fine art show are now available. Artists are encouraged to apply by the April 3 early deadline, although applications will be accepted until the event is full. Over 80 artists participated in the two-day event last year, which also includes an ethnic festival, jazz concert and multiple family activities.
First Night Youngstown 2016 Celebration takes place on New Year's Eve from 4:00 pm to Midnight, in downtown Youngstown. This event will include family and children's activities, live theatrical and musical entertainment, with fireworks at 9:00 pm and Midnight. The Youngstown Road Runners present the Jingle Bell 5K Race, on Saturday, on December 31 at 1:00 pm at the Canfield Fairgrounds. There is also a Kids Run is at 12:45. The fourth annual Twas the Night Before 5k Race runs through the Joy of Christmas light show in Historic Firestone Park in Columbiana, on Wednesday, December 14. Registration begins at 4:30pm in Pavilion #1. The race begins at 6:00 pm. Runners get treated to hot soup and other treats at the finish line. Mrs. Claus will be available for the selfie booth photos.

The Area Agency on Aging 11 presents a free Walk-A-Thon & Health Fair, on Thursday, September 22, 10:30 am - 1:00 pm, at the Wick Recreation Center in Wick Park, in Youngstown. The event is to raise awareness on national falls prevention day, and includes a community picnic. The walk is around the park.
30 Mile Meal Mahoning/Shenango+ presents the Northside Corn Roast, on Saturday, September 17, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, at the Northside Farmer's Market on Elm Street, in Youngstown. There will be roasted Angiuli's sweet corn with a secret sauce, soul food tastings, live music, kids activities and more! Cooking demos at 10:00 and 11:00 am, with the Corn Roast starting at noon. The Sixth Annual Nonviolence Parade and Rally is scheduled for Sunday, October 2, at 3:00 pm, in downtown Youngstown. The parade will start on W. Wood Street and Wick Avenue and proceed downtown. In partnership with Lincoln Knolls Block watch, Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC) is hosting a "Better Blocks" event on the East Side of Youngstown, on Saturday, August 13, 2016, noon - 4:00 pm. "Better Blocks" will take place in the Lincoln Knolls Plaza on McCartney Roadd. The event will include pop up businesses, kids activities, food, a Bike Helmet and book bag giveaway, art gallery, vendors, and outdoor seating.
