Home Run 5K

Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning County is holding its 15th annual Home Run 5K/2k Fun Walk on Saturday, November 1, at 9:00 am, at Holy Family Church in Poland, Ohio. Preregistration is $15 through October 31. Race Day registration is $18. The kids' Race is free for children ten and under. Adult registration includes a t-shirt, and snacks and drinks for all will be provided at the event.  Registration information is available at habitatmahoningcounty.org/fundraisers/.

Rebuilding History: A Walking Tour of Downtown Youngstown

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society presents an after-work walking tour of Downtown Youngstown, on Thursday, September 11. The  event is part of the Young Leaders History-To-Go Series and will begin at 5:30 pm at the Erie Terminal building on Westt Commerce Street, with a brief tour of that recently restored property. The tour will visit several locations before concluding with a reception at the Rust Belt Brewing Company. The tour and reception are open to the public. "Remaking History" - Downtown History Tour

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is hosting a walking tour of downtown Youngstown, on Monday, September 11 at 5:30 pm.  The the focus will be on the revitalization and adaptive reuse of historic buildings.  Meet at the Erie Terminal Building on Commerce Street.  More information is available at 330-743-2589.

Sundays at Stambaugh featuring Rust Belt Theater

Electra, adapted by Robert Dennick Joki from the writings of Sophocles, Euripides, and Aeschylus, tells the story of the aftermath of the Trojan War, as family members fight to decide who will control the throne of Atreus. The performance by Rust Belt Theater takes place on Sunday, September 21 at 12:30 pm, in the Formal Garden.  Ticket information is available at stambaughauditorium.com.

Bands at the Baugh

The final concert in the summer long series in the Garden at Stambaugh Auditorium --  Bands at the Baugh -- takes place on Monday, September 18, at 6:00 pm.  The concert features Cloud 9, Co-ed singing duo performing classic hits. features local musicians and local fare from Kravitz Delicatessen. Color vs Cancer 5K Color Run/Walk

The Yellow Brick Place Color vs Cancer 5K Color Run/Walk takes place at Austintown Township Park, on Sunday, September 12, with registration beginning at 7:30 am, and the race at 10:00.  This Color Run is an untimed event that emphasizes fun over competition. Runners begin dressed in clean white t-shirts and pass through a dyed cornstarch color station every kilometer.  Registration information is available at www.yellowbrickplace.org.

YSU Wind Ensemble Concert

The Dana School of Music announces an outdoor concert by the YSU Wind Ensemble on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:00 pm, at Harrison Common, located on Walnut Street across from the MVR. The concert features a variety of music including music from the soundtrack of the movie Robin Hood to a patriotic Armed Forces Salute. The concert is free and open to the public. Commercial Composting Outlook meeting

A session to explore how to divert the region’s organic wastes from landfills to create biologically compost will be held on Thursday, September 11, from 1:00 to 4:30 pm at Fellows Riverside Gardens of Mill Creek MetroParks. Topics at the free public session will include identifying and collecting materials; compost benefits to business, families and communities; complying with siting and regulations; finding suitable markets; and exploring multiple aspects of profitability. Registration information is available at 330-549-9408.

Healing Mother Earth 6th Annual Native American Powwow

The United Eastern Lenape Nation is proud to present the Healing Mother Earth 6th Annual Native American Powwow, September 5 - 7, at Fischer’s Pine Lake, 3796 Maple Road in Jefferson, OH. All drums and dancers are welcome to participate! There will be Native Vendors, Native American Storytelling, Flute & Auction; Evening Activities include Trade Blanket, Moonlight Dancing, and Drumming. 

2014 "Hustle 4 Heart Reach" 5K Run/Walk

Heart Reach Ministries will host its "Hustle 4 Heart Reach" 5K Run/Walk at the Masters Pavilion in Boardman Park on Saturday, October 4. The race is open to the public and begins promptly at 8:00 a.m.  Pre-Registration is strongly encouraged. More information is available at 330-744-2000.
