Bands at the Baugh

The final concert in the summer long series in the Garden at Stambaugh Auditorium --  Bands at the Baugh -- takes place on Monday, September 18, at 6:00 pm.  The concert features Cloud 9, Co-ed singing duo performing classic hits. features local musicians and local fare from Kravitz Delicatessen. Youngstown Symphony Orchestra Concert

The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Randall Craig Fleischer presents two of the world’s most beloved classic works on Saturday, September 20 at 8:00 pm in Powers Auditorium: Antonin Dvorak’s 9th Symphony and Sergei Rachmaninv’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini.  Rachmaninov's Rhapsody features rising young pianist Tomoki Sakata, a finalist at the most recent Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas.  Ticket information available at 330-744-0264 and online at youngstownsymphony.com.

 

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Ashtabula Concert

The Oberlin Baroque Trio from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music will perform a concert of classical music at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in downtown Ashtabula on Sunday, October 5, at 3:00 pm. The concert is sponsored by the Fine Arts Concert Series of the Church and is part of the Church’s on-going “Great Music Without Barriers” Concert Series. YSU Wind Ensemble Concert

The Dana School of Music announces an outdoor concert by the YSU Wind Ensemble on Wednesday, September 3, at 7:00 pm, at Harrison Common, located on Walnut Street across from the MVR. The concert features a variety of music including music from the soundtrack of the movie Robin Hood to a patriotic Armed Forces Salute. The concert is free and open to the public. YSU New Music Society Concert

The New Music Guild and the YSU New Music Society present Bulgarian pianist Avguste Antonov in a concert on Sunday, August 31 at Holy Apostles Church on Covington Street in Youngstown.  Antonov will perform works by American composers.  He also will perform at The Butler Institute of American Art on Wednesday, September 3 at noon.

Healing Mother Earth 6th Annual Native American Powwow

The United Eastern Lenape Nation is proud to present the Healing Mother Earth 6th Annual Native American Powwow, September 5 - 7, at Fischer’s Pine Lake, 3796 Maple Road in Jefferson, OH. All drums and dancers are welcome to participate! There will be Native Vendors, Native American Storytelling, Flute & Auction; Evening Activities include Trade Blanket, Moonlight Dancing, and Drumming. 

Mahoning Valley Chorale Auditions

The Mahoning Valley Chorale is looking for new members to join us in our 2014-15 season. Membership is open to all singers with a strong interest in performing a variety of choral music. Everyone is welcome to audition. Auditions are by appointment only on Sunday afternoon, August 24 at St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.  Reservations can be made at 330-707-2144. Stambaugh Chorus Membership Drive

The Stambaugh Chorus is accepting new members for this concert season. Under the direction of Dr Hae-Jong Lee, Stambaugh Chorus will begin its new season on Tuesday August 26th at 6:30 pm in the Ballroom at Stambaugh Auditorium with a potluck dinner. This dinner is open to past and present Chorus members and interested singers from the community.The Chorus will continue to accept new members through the month of September.  More information regarding membership  is available at www.stambaughchorus.org.

 

Pops at the Ballpark

Pops at the Ballpark features the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra in an outdoor concert at Eastwood Field in Niles on Saturday, August 23rd at 6:00 pm.  The Orchestra will perform popular classical pieces and film music, with a fireworks finale set to John Philip Sousa's march The Stars and Stripes Forever and music from Star Wars.  Ticket information is available at 330-505-0000.

Old Wine - New Bottles

The Lake Milton Nature Arts Council, in collaboration with the Dana School of Music, will present YSU Jazz & Wine Under the Stars, on Saturday, August 9, at 7:30 pm, on the waterfront at the Lake Milton State Park Amphitheater.  The program Old Wine - New Bottles will highlight the bebop and swing compositions of Clevelander Tadd Dameron, based on his favorite standards. YSU faculty and alumni musicians include Kent Engelhardt, Glenn Schaft, Shawn Marko, and Alton Merrell. The Youngstown Jazz Collective Swing Band will follow.
