Ashtabula Area City School's Lakeside High Music Boosters presents the 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera, on November 1, at 7:00 PM at Lakeside High School's Performing Arts Center, on Sanborn Road, in Ashtabula. The film stars Lon Chaney Sr., and live musical accompaniment is provided by Dave Wickerham, 2011 American Theatre Organ Society's "Organist of the Year," on the school's 1921 restored Kimball Theatre Pipe Organ. Tickets will be available at the Box Office.
The YSU Dana School of Music presents the Fall Choral Concert, by the The Dana Chorale, University Chorus, and Women’s Chorus, on Monday, October 20, at7:30 pm, at St. Columba Cathedral on wood Street in Youngstown. The concert is titled Sing on Justice, Truth, Love, and Peace!, featuring Mozart’s Miss brevis in D Major, selections from Handel’s Messiah and many more masterpieces. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Dana School of Music presents a concert by the YSU Concert Band and Wind Ensemble, on Monday, October 13, at 7:30 pm, in Stambaugh Auditorium. The concert is entitled OCTOBER WINDS, and features Gustav Holst's classic Moorside March, Malcolm Arnold's Four Scottish Dances, Percy Grainger's Molly on the Shore, and Composer-In-Residence Anthony O'Toole's new work, Up!
The YSU Dana School of Music presents a lecture by Dr. Guy Capuzzo, on Friday, October 10, at 4:00 pm in Bliss Recital Hall on the YSU campus. Dr. Capuzzo’s lecture is titled, “‘In my music it is always the still, small voice that wins out:’ On The Endings of Elliott Carter’s Compositions.” The lecture is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the Dana Research Society, a student organization promoting student research in music.
The Mahoning Valley Chorale will present a special Halloween concert, “Trick or Treat” on Sunday, October 26th at 2:00 pm at St. Patrick Church, on Oak Hill Ave, in Youngstown. Adults and children are encouraged to attend in costume. The concert will feature a sing-along opportunity and treat bags will be available for the kids. Selections include, songs from “Phantom of the Opera,” “Jekyll and Hyde,” “Monster Mash and “The Purple People Eater.” The concert is free and open to the public.
