The City of Ashtabula presents the Big Bands on the Beach Summer Concert at the Walnut Beach Concession Stand area in Ashtabula, on Sunday, August 30, 4:00 - 6:00 pm, featuring the Tony Esposito Big Band, performing tunes from the 1930s and 1940s. It is free and open to the public.
The Mahoning Valley Chorale, under the direction of Kris Harper, will present their annual summer concert, “In the Good Old Summertime” on Sunday, August 9 at 2:00 pm, at Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church,on Route 224, in Poland. The Stambaugh Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Hae-Jong Lee, is accepting new members for the 2015-2016 season. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm in the Ballroom at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. The New Castle Playhouse presents "Damn Yankees," at the Augustine Auditorium, this weekend. Evening performances are at 7:30 and the Sunday matinee is at 2:00. "Damn Yankees" tales the tale of middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd, who trades his soul to the Devil, also known as Mr. Applegate, for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant against the NY Yankees. The Harvey S. Firestone Festival of the Arts is a juried event held at Firestone park in Columbiana on Saturday, August 1, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. This event includes handmade arts and crafts, antique vendors, a Farmer's Market, a children's area, an antique and vintage tractor display, with local musical entertainment and food concessions offered throughout the day. Admission is free.
The Legal Creative is presenting a Legal Clinic for Creatives at the Main Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, on Friday, July 24th from Noon to 4:00 PM. During the Legal Clinics, art professionals and art organizations can schedule an appointment to meet face-to-face with a volunteer attorney. Registration is free and open to all artists and arts organizations regardless of income, however, consultations are limited to topics relating to the running of an arts business, such as copyright law, trademark law, contract law, and general business formation.
St. Patrick Church, on Oak Hill Avenue, in Youngstown, is hosting a Summer Arts Camp the week of August 3 - 7, from 9:00 am-2:00 pm daily. Activities include singing, drama, handbells, boomwhackers, hands-on visual art activities, creative writing/poetry and individual instrument tutoring. All of the classes are being taught by qualified artists from the parish, artists from the community, as well as from Youngstown State University. The art camp is open to all children Grades K-12. There is a $5.00 registration fee per child.
The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church annual Greek Summerfest takes place on Thursday, July 9, 11:00 am - 7:00 pm; Friday, July 10 & Saturday, July 11, 11:00 am - 10:00 pm; and Sunday, July 12, Noon - 6:00 pm. The Greek Summerfest features Greek music, and lamb and chicken dinners all four days, fish dinners on Friday only, and much more.
The Downtown JazzFest in downtown Youngstown features saxophonist Paul Taylor on Saturday, July 11 at 7:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Covelli Centre Box Office, or at Giant Eagle Ticketmaster Outlets - $8 in advance and $10 day of show. The show will be held rain or shine.
The Buzz Cronquist Swingtet will perform a jazz concert, improvising on mainly Broadway show tunes, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in downtown Ashtabula, on Friday, July 24, at 7:00 pm, as part of the Church’s “Great Music Without Barriers” Concert Series.
