Dr. George McCloud grew up near Detroit, claiming Ann Arbor, Michigan, as his hometown. His academic and professional accomplishments are numerous. In 1997, George was awarded a position at Youngstown State University as the Dean of Fine and Performing Arts. He earned a BA in Communication from Eastern Michigan University, and an MA and Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Michigan. George was a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow at Princeton, studied academic administration at Harvard, and learned about Chinese history and culture at the East West Center, the University of Hawaii, and Beijing University.
While a graduate student, McCloud worked professionally in radio and TV and was a faculty member at Eastern Michigan for ten years. Previous jobs include Hospital Administrator at the University of Michigan, Dean at William Peterson University in New Jersey, Associate Dean and Dean Assistant to the Provost at YSU. He has also been employed as Executive Counsel for the President at YSU, Director of Strategic Planning at Eastern Michigan University, and Tenured Associate Professor at EMU.
McCloud was promoted to YSU Vice President in 2001 returned to faculty status in 2010. He is the current host of Looking Out, a WYSU-produced half-hour program devoted to current events featuring experts on a variety of local, national, and global issues.
In his free time, George reads extensively, gardens, sails, and spends time with his dog, Zoe. His favorite WYSU programs include All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Classical Music with Barbara Krauss. According to George, WYSU's most valued treasure is "the people and the ideas they have!"
