April Antell Tarantine is an Austintown Fitch graduate who, while earning a bachelor's degree in Music Education and voice at Youngstown State University, first applied for job at WYSU 88.5 FM in 1990. She graduated in 1993 and received a master’s degree in Vocal Performance in 2008.
While at WYSU, April has worn many hats including music librarian, board operator, classical music announcer, and fund raiser. She has taught music at Mineral Ridge Middle School, St. Luke’s School, and Akiva Academy, and is currently a member of the adjunct faculty in the Department of Music at Thiel College. April has served as pianist and choir director at her church and has taken leadership roles in several local and national music-related organizations.
In her spare time, April enjoys singing and playing piano, walking, riding her bike, and exercising in general. She also enjoys a good board game played with family and friends.
April loves her job at WYSU because it allows her to meet many interesting people including her then co-worker and now husband, Perry Tarantine. The two have been married since 1998.
There are several programs that April never misses, including Fresh Air and Marketplace, but she says, "I think Car Talk is my absolute favorite!"
